Corral (also called Cave or Bag) is a logic puzzle. It is played on a
rectangular grid, in which numbers appear in some cells.
Initial Corral puzzle.
Shade in cells so that each numbered square sees the same amount of unshaded cells equal to
its number. All unshaded cells must form one loop and there should not be any shaded cells
trapped within the loop.
Position with a single enclosed cell.
When there are shaded cells enclosed in in the unshaded loop, the enclosed shaded cells will
be marked as red and it should be avoided.
Solution.
Multiplicative Rules
Multiplicative or product Corral is a variation of Corral.
Initial Multiplicative Corral puzzle.
Shade in cells so that a single closed loop remains that contains all numbers. Just as regular
Corral this loop should not enclose any cells. Each number is the product of two numbers: the
number of unshaded cells in the vertical direction (including the number square) with the
unshaded numbers in the horizontal direction (again, including the number square).
Solution.
Crate Rules
Crate Corral is a variation of Corral. The solution may now contain isolated walls referred to
as crates. Crates are always 1 grid square by 1 grid square in size and function like walls in
that they “block sight”. The 8 spaces surrounding a crate are always inside the loop and do
not contain other crates. In particular, a crate can never appear on the edge. Additionally,
red-numbered clues may appear in the grid. Besides being required to appear inside the loop
like ordinary clues, these numbers tell in how many of the four directions that square’s sight
is blocked by a crate.
